Rust Experiments

I have been playing around with the rusting kits that you can buy at the craft stores. Here is a couple of items I am in the process of rusting right now. The first photo is of an item that has not been touched, the second picture is the same type of plaster piece with it's first rusting coat done, the third picture of the angel has had about 3 coats of the rust activator applied. I will be giving it a couple more coats until the patina is just right. It seems the more you coat it the darker the rust becomes. You can see how orangy the second photo is with just one coat. This stuff is so much fun. I love how they turn out, they look great in the garden. I do need to put a sealer on them because the rust will run in the rain I am afraid. I don't want any marks on deck.

just beautiful. fleur de lis is my favorite and your rust is perfect on your Angel but I can see you want it to be even bolder.

I love rusty things! One of my favorite things to rust is fabric! You can do it the way you are rusting the plaster (love the depth in the 3d piece) but I love to take fabric, wet it, sprinkle vinegar and salt on it, then lay an old steel or iron object on it... steel wool is fantastic! I plan on rusting fabric on a large scale after my (really needed) 2 week vacation...something to look forward to back here! Don't you just love art? Yours is super, I love to visit your blog, there is always something great going on!
