Upcycled Sweater Purse

I went shopping at a couple of thrift stores over the last couple of weeks looking for some hidden treasures to use in my art projects. I only found some pretty wool sweaters to felt and use for purses. This is the first one I made. First I put the 100% wool into the washing machine in hot water w/ soap. Then I popped it into a hot dryer. When it was finished my xxl sweater vest was more like a med or small. It was felted and ready to go. I found this bucket purse pattern and made it with heavy interfacing, and lined it with brown silk. Overall, I am happy with the way it turned out. It gets real bulky with the interfacing when you sew it. I definetly am not a great seamstress, I need to improve a lot. I think it turned out well enough to use though. I also want to try to make some slippers out of the felt, but still need a pattern for that. The rest of the scraps I have been cutting into 6x6 squares that I am going to make into a throw for curling up with. That will take lots of scraps though. Has anyone else made fun stuff with felted sweaters? I would love to see what you've made. I know there is a local lady that makes teddy bears out of cashmere sweaters. That would be so cuddly! Don't throw out those old sweaters, go felt them and make something new.

It's beginning to look alot like Christmas

I took these shots of my house last night. We have green lights on the ground, red candy canes lining the sidewalk and the my all time favorite splurge the snow globe snowmen. I saw this thing 2 years ago at Linens N Things and it stopped me in my tracks. I had not seen one before. I went home and frantically searched for a 20% off coupon. It was in my yard that night with 25mph winds. I almost lost it the first night! It has held up well, my kids keep saying they want to go inside. Luckily the opening is about 8 inches long so I won't likely find them in there. Our whole street really gets into decoracting their houses. Ours is one of the less brite ones. It makes for a fun night time stroll. Happy Holidays!!!

Ornament and Charm swap

These are the great ornaments and charms I received in the Latest Trends in Mixed Media swaps. I love them all. I have a little tree in my studio that will be sporting all of these. I don't think I will have time to get a bracelet together, so they will all be ornaments this year. There was such a variety of media used on these. What a great representation of the talented artists that are in this group. I am so glad I pushed myself to participate.

My prize from Vintage Charmings came today!!

Look at all of the wonderful goodies that came in my French Ephemera package from Vintage Charmings. I was one of the winners on The Latest Trends in Mixed Media November Shrine Challenge. So they sent me this package filled with goodies from France. It has tickets, book pages, bottle caps, coins, post cards as well as vintage postcards with beautiful script writing on the back. I am going to have so much fun incorporating these into my art. Where to start? I am going to have to go to the Vintage Charmings website to see what other goodies she has for sale.

New Holiay art

I have been trying to get some new art work done for some holiday necklaces. I finally got the time and here is what I came up with so far. The first is "Scrooge" , this guy just looked perfect for the part. The other is a sweet little girl that I have made into the Sugar Plum Fairy. She is just waiting to grant some wishes. I have found so many great vintage styled Christmas paper to use. Although I didn't use any on these. I tend to want to save everything. I think if I stacked up all of my scrapbook papers it would definetly be at least 4 feet high! I am sure there are many of you out there who could beat me, right??

Miss Jingles Art Doll

I have been busy making a lot of goodies in my studio. This is Miss Jingles an art doll that I have added into my Etsy store. I just love those skinny stripped legs. If only I could have thin thighs like that! Her skirt is pom pom fringe and she has curly toed shoes. I love the big feet as well. I can do without those. She was fun to make, I hope I have time to do a couple more before the season is over.
