The Beach House Hilton Head

I recently got to stay at the Beach House Holiday Inn on Hilton Head Island. They are doing a huge 7 million dollar renovation. We had no idea this was going on during our stay. However, I took tons of pics of the decor that was completed because it was done well and it was stuff we could all do.
Love the ship lap in the area behind the reservation desk. It was crisp white and their logo looked great on it.
The area next to the checkin desk felt more like a beach house living room than a hotel lobby.
This was the hallway to the ballrooms. Love the lighting! Love the seating and look at the console tables. It looks like the base is 2x4 and reclaimed wood on top. Is this an Ana White piece??
I am going to have to make one of these!! I love the way they did their ship lap too. They used a jig it looks like to get even spacing between the boards. Finally, look at how they used pendant lights in the hallway. They probably had sconces and used that electricity source with the hooks to hang the lights higher on the wall. Sooo cool. Hope you understand what I'm saying there.
Well December is not the most popular time to go to Hilton Head and that was just fine with me, the beach was still just as beautiful, and the restaurants were empty... Perfect!

How to Use Liming Wax from Amy Howard at Home - Ace Hardware

Amy Howard has such a great library of how to videos now available on Youtube. I had bought some of the liming wax and was not exactly sure how to use it. This video was extremely helpful, I would not have achieved this look on my own. I am going to find a project to do right now. I will post my results!

Create Your Own Snow Scene Jars

I love creating these snow scene jars. I have been creating them over the last couple of years with these great jars I find in the thrift stores. Here is how I found this one, complete with fake bread loaves.
I cleaned well with Windex first, then started to play with the items I had on hand to put inside the jar.
I found all of these great trees, snow man, and banner supplies at Micheal's Arts and Crafts. I decided I had to have a little banner hanging between these "poles" over the snowman's head.
I made the "poles" out of kabob skewers and then sunk them into some found styrofoam that I hot glued to the bottom of the jar.
I hot glued down each of the individual trees, snowman, and foam for the banner. Now that everything is secure I carefully added my faux snow, that I also found at Micheal's A & C.
For the final touch I added a small metal fence around the front of the jar. I know not everything in the jar is the correct scale, but still fun for little ones to put together and dream of a snow day. What do you think? I would love to hear your comments!

Have you painted upholstrey?

I saw this chair in a store recently. I thought it was super cute. I love the ruffle added to the bottom! I got closer and touched it and realized it had been painted. I did not know just looking at it. I think they did a super job. I have not tried this but have seen lots of pics on Pinterest. So tell me have you painted upholstrey? Did you love the results? Any tips we should know before we give it a go? Would love to hear from you.

Our new store opened today!

I have sold on Etsy for years now, but have wanted to have my own entity not tied to Etsy or any other larger online store. I have partnered with my business partner Mary and created what we hope will be a unique online shopping destination. It will feature our handmade jewelry that we have done for so many years, but also some of the home decor items we sell in our local booth in Alpharetta Georgia.
It has a bohemian free spirited feel, that appeals to all ages. We hope you will sign up for our newsletter to hear the latest news and sales info.
We have the latest looks for fall in accessories too! We are offering free shipping through the of October so stop on by! Sassyandstash.com

Faux Beams faux Sho!

A friend of mine builds very high end homes. He let us tour one recently and I was totally blown away by the incredible rustic beams throughout the house. "Where did you find those?!" I hammered him. He said they were totally fake and weighed about 14 pounds each for the 13 ft long one! Wow!
Well his source was a builder supply compamy, but he said they have something very similar at Home Depot! These pics I took off of their website. Are they not amazing looking. This totally makes it affordable than the real deal beams. The 5x5x13 beam was $164 on the site and they have to be ordered to the store. Here is a pic of them installed. Amazing arent' they? Anyone interested in trying them? I'd love to see your pics and share them here!

My favorite tomato dish

I love being able to get delicious tomatoes during the summer. I can eat two or more a day easily. I have been favoring this dish for lunch.
Tomatoes, cucumber, feta cheese, Gazebo Room Greek dressing, and Cavender's Greek Seasoning.
If you have never heard of Gazebo Room Greek, you are just missing out on the best Greek Dressing ever! I mean it, I was never a big fan of Greek salads until I had this one. If you are located in the North Eastern United States you probably have it in your local grocery store. If you are not located there, like me, you can order it online. I buy it by the case every 6 to 8 months and use it as not only a salad dressing, but also as a marinade on all kinds of things. This sounds like a commercial for Gazebo Dressing, but it's not. I am not associated with them, and receive no compensation. I just love it and thought you should know about it. Bon Apetit!

My first Amy Howard Paint project!

I found this mirror at my local thrift store. It had a lot of nice details I was hoping to accent in my painting.
I coated it first with a Amy Howard One Step paint in Linen. Then I mixed up some of the Toscana Milk paint in Riviera Blue.
I love the color of this blue, but not on this mirror. It was way brighter than I was thinking it would be.
So back to the store for this color,"A Good Man is Hard to Find." So true Amy, and so is a good gray/black. This color is a keeper!
I recoated the mirror and loved the way it was coming out.
Next I got some gold enamel paint and painted the raised design. Oh yeah I am loving this! I got a bit anxious to finish it off and got the wax out. Learn from me, you need to wait for the enamel paint to thoroughly dry. I wish I could tell you how long that is, but I don't know cause I couldn't wait. Finally it got the "Dust of Ages" treatment. I have to say this is the item that really made a huge difference. It gives your piece instant authenticity. I am now a believer. Here is the final product ready to head over to my booth at Queen of Hearts. I hope someone falls in love with it for their home.

Loving the Ship Lap Look?

Isn't this room gorgeous with the ship lap walls in white? This is from the How to Decorate blog of Ballard Designs. Lots of great ideas to be found here.
The homedit blog had this lovely room with aqua ship lap. Love it! I want this look, but really thought it would be out of my skill set. But look.....this is how you buy it. MerryPad blog has the whole how to. Check it out here.
Doesn't it look easy peasy? I just need to find my perfect spot to give it a try. I would love to hear if you have tried a ship lap wall. Send your pics I would love to post them too.

I love Amy Howard Paint!!!

I should first tell you I am not affiliated in any way with Amy Howard Paint. I attended Haven conference and Amy ( I feel we are on a first name basis now) gave this incredible presentation and techique class. This is what I painted!
I have been painting furniture for awhile and now I realize it is horribly bad. The products she has brings authenticity to your work. It really is believable (not like mine with crazy distressing where it couldn't possibly get distressed). I had no idea these products where out there or how to use them. So I got to my local Amy Howard retailer and bought these things to start. Trust me I wanted it all! I already had a can of her one step paint on my paint rack so I have what I need to get started.
The Toscana Milk paint is awesome, you only mix up what you need with equal parts of the paint to water. Look at the color of this paint it is gor-geous!!
So now friends I am off to find a piece of exceptional ugliness that I hope to revive into something beautiful with my Amy Howard paint, wax and dust! Stay tuned.

New Jewelry !

I have been busy making lots of new jewelry. I have to admit the hardest part for me is getting the photos and getting them loaded into the etsy store. That part is not as much fun as playing with my beads, but a necessary part of the business. Hope you like my new stuff. You can find them here. Thanks for stopping by!

Little Windows Jewelry Resin

I was organizing some of my old jewelry photos and found these resin projects. I forgot how much fun it is to play with resin. I use Little Windows brand. I find it extremely easy to work with and the results are always great. How about you? Do you love to create with two part epoxy resin?

Youtube

Just wondering how many of you go to Youtube when you want to learn how to do something? I have been going pretty regularly and have learned tons of things. We first learned how to install our laminate floor in our basement. Now I should say in the end we found someone else to do it, but I was very aware of the proper way things needed to be done and didn't allow any short cuts. We also watched several videos on how to replace our garbage disposal, this was a huge success. I also watch a lot of craft, jewelry how to videos. There really are some talented and generous people out there. Remember before the internet you had to go somewhere and pay to take a class. I think we should still do that, but in a pinch Youtube is awesome. I am asking this because I have had several inquires about me having a Youtube channel. Would you like to see a resin domino video? Or some of the other tutorials I have shown here? I would love to know what you think, please leave me a comment. Thanks! Denise

Outdoor Pallet Bar

I am loving this outdoor bar that I found here On the HGTV blog. It has a great step by step plan to build your own. I would love to have this hanging on one of the walls on my deck for a "pop up party." What do you think? Who wants one?
