There is also a great paper bag album that is made out of a single bag and she does great tutorial on packing tape transfers during this video. Check them all out, I think each one is well done and has a lot of good info or great inspiration. Just scroll to the bottom of my blog to find them.

Too many craft supplies?

I joined a Yahoo group not too long ago for those of us who tend to collect more than they can craft with. It is a great group for buying and selling craft supply items. Unlike some of the other Yahoo groups that are set up for this purpose, this one is individuals trying to sell their stuff. I belong to one that is nothing but web stores that do extremely long lists of everything they have in their store. Nothing wrong with this just too long for me to get through in that format and I tend to just delete the whole thing. I have sold several items so far and everyone just goes to Paypal to complete the transaction. I have also bought a couple of bargains there as well. The moderator runs a pretty tight ship and keeps the posts moderated so you won't be spammed. If you would like to try it out the link is, Happy shopping!

Look what I made for my ink pads

I picked up this little cabinet from JoAnne's when it was 75% off of the seasonal items from the summer. It was dog ugly, but I thought it had some potential. I looked at it for a long time and then decided to start covering it with strips of script scrapbook paper. I popped out the center insert that had an ugly apple motif and covered and stamped it with this Paris doll stamp. Under the center oval is a bamboo tile I stamped "Bonjour" on. The little swirly things are painted chipboard. As you can see from the open picture it holds pretty many pads, but as we all know it doesn't hold all of them for sure! So I just put my most used pads in there for easy reach.

New Holiday tags

I have been busy with holiday charms, and tags oh my. I am in another swap at Latest Trends in Mixed Media Yahoo group. We are doing a 5/5 holiday ornament and 5/5 holiday charm. I am still not happy with my ornament. It has some work still. The charms turned out pretty cute. They are so small, pretty tough to solder. I am lucky I didn't burn my fingers off. The tags are for my Etsy store. I am selling them and also including wrapping with all of my pendant necklaces from now until the end of December.

Look who was on my deck today

Well the day after I tell the world my bird story. I come home to find this on my deck! A beautiful red breasted hawk. I live in suburbia so to say the least I was suprised. I got about 6 photos of him before he took off. I have never seen anything like that before.

November Shrine Challenge

This is my shrine I completed for the November shrine challenge at The Latest Trends in Mixed Media yahoo group. It was started after my mom passed away and kinda became my therapy. It repeats the word "hope" three different times. I think was subliminal, didn't even realize I did that. Then it also has a bird theme as well, it being nestlike with the egg etc. I kinda became obsessed with birds and bird motifs after my moms funeral. At my mom's funeral there was a beautiful flower arrangement from my two good girlfriends back at home. The arrangement had the sweetest bird's nest tucked in and had this poem in it, "This nest may be empty, But I've not flown far away. I am part of your memory Where I will always stay." I was so touched by the poem and called my friend to tell her thank you and how the poem touched me. She was taking care of my dog while we were away at the funeral and she said she had no idea the poem and nest were part of the flower arrangement, but was glad I liked it so well. The next day when I spoke to her she said, "You are never going to believe this, but when I came into your kitchen today there was a little bird sitting on your kitchen table." It scared the heck out of her to say the least and then after she let the dog outside because she was going crazy she came back into the kitchen and it was gone. True story. I have no explanation for it. I have a chimney, but it has a cap on it. We know of no way for a bird to get into our home. It had never happened before. Anyone have a similar experience?

My newest treasure

Here is a picture of my latest find at the antique mall. It is a scrapbook from the Columbian Expositon, the Chicago World's Fair 1893! Okay I did not know what the Columbian Expo was at first, and I came home and Googled it. I flipped through it and found a little hand written note from mother to daughter. The scrapbook was given as a Christmas gift on 12/25/1893. It is so sweet. The book is filled with gorgeous images that are still so crisp in color. It is not in great condition and I probably paid way to much for it. I don't care though I love it. I am going to use some of the Christmas images on ornaments in my etsy store. Blogger won't let me upload anymore photos now so I will have to post more later.

Packing tape Transfer Ornament

I have been wanting to make some personalized ornaments using all of our family photos. A lot of times I make something with the photos that our friends and family send in their holiday greeting cards. Here is one I made using the packing tape transfer method. This photo is actually from a commercial source, but I loved the baby and the sepia color to use on the clear glass.

Here are the things you need if you would like to try to make some of these ornaments yourself.

First make a photo copy on a toner copier and shrink it to the size you want for your ornament.

Next burnish the packing tape onto the top of your photo copy, next you just brush on some water to start to break down the paper on back of the copy. Gently rub your finger on the paper until it is all rubbed off. You may need to reapply the water to get all of the paper off. Next I layered my transfer onto a script background paper, then I applied it to my ornament using gel medium. I did have to make some small cuts along the edge of the transfer to help make it lie flat onto the glass. Allow to dry and there you have an instant heirloom.

Here is a great cheap holiday gift

When it comes to holiday gift giving the list can get pretty long with teachers, babysitters, etc. I made these bath salts gifts so I could have something for everyone without breaking the bank. There are many sites on the web that will give you the exact recipe for scented bath salts. It is basically epsom salts, essential oil and coloring. I coordinated my color and scent with my packaging. I think the shaker jar is the too cute for this gift. I was able to get them at the dollar store and then used my fabric scraps and glued on a ribbon and label for a total of $2.00 each. Imagine this with some vintage fabric now that would be cute. Go ahead and make some now, then when you need one you will be ready to go!

Assembledge Angel

Iam still in the process of making this angel assembledge. I feel stuck right now not sure what it is in need of. I don't know if it will get legs or fly as is. I do love how the rusty wings turned out. I used Modern Masters iron paint, then the rust patina and wow I had rust. I hope to post a finished angel very soon.

You Tube Addition

I have added a You Tube player to the bottom of my page. I have found a ton of great tutorials available by some awesome artists there. I had never thought to go looking there before. Now you can click on the player and you will see a tutorial that could be for beading, polymer clay, art journals , collage, atcs etc. It can be addictive I will warn you. It is a great opportunity for some of us that may not have access to these classes in our local area. I am a visual learner so I have found it to be very helpful. Let me know what you find.
