Yummy BLT Recipe

I know my blog is about art, but I also want to share some other goodies with you too. I made some of this BLT dip for a party and it was a huge hit. It is pretty basic, which to me makes it even better. Here is what you need; 1 Roma tomato, 1 jar of Hormel Bacon Bits, 1/2 cup mayo, and 1/2 cup sour cream. I use reduced fat for the sour cream and I think it still tastes really good.
First cut your tomato and squeeze out the extra juice, then dice it up. Next mix the mayo and sour cream, the whole jar of bacon bits and the tomato. Let it chill for a while in the fridge and serve it with toast points. That's it. You can make this recipe larger or smaller but keep the mayo and sour cream portions equal. I usually have all of these ingredients on hand so I can whip it up whenever I need to bring an appetizer to share. Let me know if you like it.

This is Fall?

I just took this picture on my deck the other day and can't believe how good my flowers are looking. Almost Halloween and my Begonias have not looked better all season. I am in the "historic" drought affecting the southeast US. I have to save water from all over the house to water my plants. It makes you very aware of how much can be wasted during the day. I have even been watering with leftover coffee. I figured at this point in the season what could it hurt. I will let you know if I get super growth because of it. Great another reason for Starbucks to expand their business.

Got Blog Fever? You need Google Reader

I have to admit I have been a serious blog hopper for the last couple of months. I would waste so much precious time trying to find all of my favorites again and again. Then I found out about a service on Google. The Google Reader keeps track of all of my favorite blogs and lets me know when new content has been added. I am up to about 20 already. I don't know how many it will hold but I am going to find out. If you want to try it out go to the Google page look at the top left corner of the page, click on "other" and a drop down menu has "reader" at the bottom of the list, click this and it will guide you through you can add all of your favorites. Now I am sure this is old news for many of you, but some of us are just getting the hang of this and we need to take care of each other.

Halloween Charm Swap

These are the charms I made for the charm swap over at "Latest Trends in Mixed Media" yahoo group. I will get 10 different charms back to make a bracelet. The charms were all awesome. I wish I could get one of everyone's back.
To make these I used Premo glow in the dark clay. The ghosts are pretty easy, just tear drop shaped with a twisted tail. Balls for the eyes and a small snake for eyebrows. The eyeballs are pretty easy too. Just add on some details with a sharpe. I am going to be making a few earrings for teachers like this.

And the winner is......

Inka! Inka please email me with your addy and I will get your Halloween charm off to you on Monday morning! Congratulations! Sorry I am late posting the winner. We had a bit of a bad day Saturday. My hubby and I decided to go ahead and put in new tile in the bathroom......twelve hours later we ended up having to go to bed with no running water in the house. I told him they don't call do it yourselfers "Weekend Warriors" for nothing. Today we have water, but there is still much to be done. Thanks everyone for playing and leaving your kind comments. It is nice to know there is life out there. I will get a new item up real soon!

Spooky!!

My friend loves Halloween as much as I do. Look how great her house looks. It is even better at night as she has her bushes filled with orange lights.
The door is wrapped with a combination of grapevines, black garland, and of course more orange lights. She has several spooky scenes in her house too. The kids love to go and see what kind of surprises she has waiting for them.

New Transfer Technique

I had the opportunity to attend a demo by the talented Barbara McGuire. She did this transfer onto polymer clay. Barbara is an extremely talented and knowledgable teacher. She has several great books on the market that I would encourage you to look for if polymer clay interests you at all. The technique was so simple I can't believe it works so well. First I made a copy of this vintage post card at Staples on their toner copier. Second, I conditioned white Premo polymer clay and rolled it out into a smooth long sheet. Third, I put my copy face down onto the clay and burnished it with a bone folder, and used my tissue blade to cut out the shape. Fourth, I lightly sprayed the back of the clay and used my finger to rub the paper off and repeated this step until all of the paper was removed. Look how vibrant the colors turned out! I then placed the polymer clay into the oven following the manufacturer's instructions. This is the final product, I think I will incorporate it into a polymer clay pendant. There are alot of options for using these. Now go get creating!
