Upcycled Sweater Purse

I went shopping at a couple of thrift stores over the last couple of weeks looking for some hidden treasures to use in my art projects. I only found some pretty wool sweaters to felt and use for purses. This is the first one I made. First I put the 100% wool into the washing machine in hot water w/ soap. Then I popped it into a hot dryer. When it was finished my xxl sweater vest was more like a med or small. It was felted and ready to go. I found this bucket purse pattern and made it with heavy interfacing, and lined it with brown silk. Overall, I am happy with the way it turned out. It gets real bulky with the interfacing when you sew it. I definetly am not a great seamstress, I need to improve a lot. I think it turned out well enough to use though. I also want to try to make some slippers out of the felt, but still need a pattern for that. The rest of the scraps I have been cutting into 6x6 squares that I am going to make into a throw for curling up with. That will take lots of scraps though. Has anyone else made fun stuff with felted sweaters? I would love to see what you've made. I know there is a local lady that makes teddy bears out of cashmere sweaters. That would be so cuddly! Don't throw out those old sweaters, go felt them and make something new.

Denise, this is awesome!!! Way to go! How clever of you and the shape is perfect for this knitted pattern.
I'm looking through all my kids stuff to see if there might be a handbag in there for me too! Oh, and the slippers are a great idea. Thanks for sharing...
